I've noticed that the young Ibis are the ones who spread their wings out and seem to sun themselves even on sweltering hot days.
This has led me to believe they are using the sun to "bleach" their brown feathers to white, otherwise we would have a bunch of molted brown feathers which we do not. Overall we have found very few Ibis feathers laying around at all, the ones that we do find are white.
