FIRST NEW BABY PEACOCKS OF 2024

WEDNESDAY JULY 10th, amid scattered thunder showers, the first new baby Peafowl of 2024 arrived to check out the play land of P2.

One Peahen appeared to have three babies while each of the other two moms each had one. Rain condensed on the kitchen window prevented clear photos.

THURSDAY JULY 11th, Two proud Peahen moms brought their babies to the P2 "Patio of Fun".

JUST ANOTHER MANIC SUNDAY (AT P2), MINKY UP!

We seem to have taken on a number of birds.

We have three bantam hens named "Minky". They are miniature Rhode Island Reds and they are the sweetest most gentle hens we have.

Mary has been training this little Minky since she was a 1-day old chick. "Minky-UP" is all she says and this little chicken flies up to her arm for a special treat (dried meal worms in this case).

GUARD PEACOCK KEEPS US SAFE

We ordered some food to be delivered from Walmart and the driver left everything on the sidewalk, significantly short of the front door. We were initially confused and infuriated but after we reviewed the attached "delivery confirmation" photo we understood what had happened.

Male Peacock Intimidates Delivery Driver

Our trained "Guard Peacock" was on duty, pacing back and forth, patrolling the front door area and keeping us safe from intruders.

PEAFOWL FAMILY FEB 2022

 8 HENS, 1 YOUNG MALE, 1 ADULT MALE +

This year the peafowl roaming our farm consist of 8 hens, 1 young male, and 4 adult males. It's now February so the males are becoming more territorial, it's less common to see all four peacocks hanging out with the main tribe.

Our young male (affectionately known as "Vesty" due to his black spotted chest turning from cream to black color) has been hanging out with the 8 ladies and practicing his display for when he's a BIG peacock lol.

Here they are, six hens and Vesty up on the roof with Mr P and two hens napping on the pool cage.

They like admiring themselves in the reflections on the second story windows.

BANTAM CHICKENS 2021 (AND PEAFOWL AND SNEETCHES ;-)

Here it is, 14+ minutes of video from the P2 Wildlife Sanctuary and Zoo. Our first little chickens came here when they were only two days old back around March 1 of 2021, now look at our menagerie. The peafowl come and hang around begging for treats every time we have the little chickens out for exercise. Enjoy!

Mr Pea and the Ladies

Here's Mr. Pea showing off to the ladies, trying to win their favor.  In March, this is a daily occurrence...   and he looks his best.  The display is perfect, the dance is elegant, the feathers are unbelievably blue and green and hopefully the ladies are impressed.

And the daytime racon, stealing black oil sunflower seed treats behind Mr. Pea's back :D

Mr. Pea (AKA Top Male Peacock) Preening his HUGE, Majestic Feathers - March 11, 2021

Mark and I were just sitting here in the kitchen pond viewing chamber, and suddenly Mr. Pea spread his amazing feathers and started grooming.  I had to capture the glory of his fluffy feathers since they are in a state of absolute perfection.  They grew in this winter, and since we've had a drought and essentially no rain, they are showing zero signs of damage or wear.  Enjoy!

Peacocks Displaying

It's January 14th, and we are in full male displaying time of the year.  By about January 10th, the males had their massive feather trains in place.  In late December, they were long but not 100%.  Now, OMG, they fill the whole area when they display.  The males are still getting along together - later, territorial behavior will have them arguing and chasing each other.

So for the record, January 10th begins official male peacock display time.

Male Peacocks Getting Long Feathers Now - Nov 1 2019

Early November is when the male peacocks start growing in their incredibly beautiful long feathers.  They're only half length, so not as impressive as a full set, but since they're brand new and compact, the depth of the color and the number of eyes is amazing.

Five Peacock Babies!

We have our first five peacock babies!  On the way back from picking up the trash cans this evening, we saw a mother with her five peacock babies.  They look very new, probably only a day or two old.  We talked to the guy who owns the "peacock friendly" property to our west, and he clearly loves them as much as we do.

We look forward to another generation of our favorites huge birds, the peacocks!

Peacocks in the Trees!

This is that magical time of year when the male peafowl posture and sit in the trees "mee-hawing" all night.

P2 DECEMBER 2018 PEAFOWL

Just the other day we were discussing "where are all the peafowl this year".

Cold weather brought them all out because there's no lizards ANYWHERE! It's too cold for lizards to come out, they're all cowering somewhere frozen by the cold 57 degree weather we've had.

So the peafowl are on the hunt for food.

Yesterday we had at least 22 peahens and peacocks visiting our food bank. They love black oil sunflower seed, dog food nuggets and white bread.

Our two little "teeny" peafowl kids have grown up so big they are barely recognizable any more, they just look like young adults.

Note the little boy head peeking thru the concrete block, eating seed from under moms nose, (daughter on left)
Here's the kids with Mom. We had three kids but one got lost somewhere along the way. Fortunately we have a young male and a young female to enlarge this years flock.

The flock grows every year but some of the birds move away to lord over their own turf and be boss.

Fortunately each Spring, at the end of May, we are rewarded with new baby peafowl.

This keeps the flock growing and vibrant, well, certainly vibrant.

BEAUTIFUL OCTOBER FLORIDA DAY, DUCKS, PEAFOWL, EGRETS AND RACCOONS CHILLAXIN

Another beautiful day in Paradise

Ducks riding their platform, enjoying a leisurely day of nomming corn and tanning :-)

Peafowl dust bathing by the pool cage

Two friends relaxing together

Big Dennis the big white egret, hanging around with his buddies, the Sneetches :-)

Raccoons nomming dog food, everyone getting along.

A view of the "Raccoon Force Field" electric wall of doom, instantly stopped raccoons from breaking in to our porch through this screen (sly chuckle lol)

We actually love the raccoons and would never do anything to intentionally hurt them, the electric fence charger is totally safe and UL approved.

We love all the animals at P2
