Formex Chicken Coop Protects Chickens

We just had a storm come through with 60 mph gusts - it was sudden with little warning.  I looked out the window and froze in shock - a massive branch one one of our huge southern oak trees let loose in a gust and come down, stabbing right into the nest box of one of our 20 or more large Formex chicken coops.  Mark and I ran outside to make sure the chickens were ok, and pulled the limb out of the coop.  I took some photos while Mark reshaped the nest box lid.  We think we're going to be able to save the coop.  The 4 eggs in the nest box are fine and no chickens are harmed.

Thank you FORMEX for one of the most critical tools we use here on the P2 farm:  strong, lightweight, powerful, reliable, cleanable, gorgeous chicken coops that keep our chickens safe in the storms.

2026 Seramas

In April 2026 I decided it was time to use the incubators, so I bought a dozen Serama eggs and popped them in.  Eight hatched and now they're part of the family.  Serama babies are so unique, colorful, and just different.

May 20 2026     Serama babies hatched (exactly 20 days)

- Pip was the first to pop out at 11:00 am, and the rest followed one by one throughout the day.  Just amazing little tiny babies!

May 22 2026    Pip, Zip and their brothers and sisters were moved out of the incubator into a sterilite container with heating pad and brooder plate ("mama hen")

Jun 17 2026    The 8 seramas called "The Tinies" are living in a cage on the screened in porch during the day and a large sterilite box during the night.

My next job is to be on alert, identify roosters, and put each one on Craigslist to find a new home.  We'd love to keep every one but WE HAVE TOO MANY ROOSTERS :D

Roger the Serama Rooster

I love all of our Serama chickens (all 3 that are currently out and about and more to come from the June 2026 hatch).  But the most spectacular is Roger the Serama Rooster.

Every one of the chickens is gorgeous and wonderful and filled with personality, but Roger is just very special.  He somehow pretends he's not a rooster and navigates through a chicken society with lines of demarcation between over 10 roosters and no one gets upset at him.  The other roosters will fight each other and draw blood, but Roger just zooms around and stays out of trouble.  He "visits" each of the "short girls" (all bantam hens) and just keeps the place lively and colorful.

Roger was born December 25, 2024.  He lives in a small Formex house with his 2 sisters Creamy and Dreamy and with the Silkie hen Bev (don't ask).
