SEVEN LITTLE FLOCKS OF LITTLE CHICKENS

 WE LOVE OUR ROOSTERS

The problem with roosters is, what do you do with them? We don't eat our chickens so that was out. Nobody wants adult roosters even if they're super cute Bantam Silkies. We raised our roosters since they were one or two days old so we're bonded, we love them, even the ass-holes who peck and want to claw us with their feet.

After months of work, lots of "making plans", then throwing the plans out and starting over we have finally come to the final solution. Seven discrete little groups of chickens, each with at least one rooster and one hen.

Their coops are not in a nice orderly shape because, well, the whole process has been a bit chaotic and random so we ended up with this! This? Yes this, it's a mess but they're our little pets and we love them all. Everyone of the birds has a name and they regularly have conversations with us (we've had to learn the language of chickens).

This photo-essay is more about the incredible infrastructure we've created for our extended family. Numeric designations with solar powered lights is the latest addition.

We put rubber balls into the feed boxes to prevent night time visitors from feasting on the chicken food.
