GETTING READY FOR HURRICANE MATTHEW 2016

We really did not have time to document much as we prepared for our first hurricane since moving to Florida. Our home sits about 8 miles from the ocean and it is not located in the flood plain, plus it is surrounded by large drainage ditches and a very large canal behind us. Our only real water damage could come from a canal that becomes blocked due to downed trees or other debris.

The worst part of the hurricane was the "wondering", we had no firsthand experience and the weather forecasting was all over the place so it was impossible to tell what we were really in for.

By the time we decided to try and board up the windows there was no plywood available anywhere so we used scrap lumber and small bits of plywood to cover the windows. Mary measured the windows and the wood, I cut it and installed it. This was a heavy intensive team effort.

Special thanks to our friend Jack Daniels for helping us get everything ready for the storm, without his help we might not have accomplished everything we did. He was also a good friend as we rode through the storm (which really did not start to get interesting until around midnight).
