MAY 14, 2017 A VERY SAD MOTHERS DAY - RIP BUCK

First wildfires broke out all around our home which was very unnerving. Large pieces of burnt ash were raining down around our swimming pool behind our house. The air was filled with thick smoke that has left us with sore throats today.

We left to go investigate the source of the fire and discovered to our horror, one of our beloved Peacock boys had been struck by a car and killed. It was one we affectionately called Buck. He was born here around the end of May last year so he was just under one-year old. We've watched this little guy grow up from being a soft-ball sized little fluff ball on pipe-cleaner legs to an almost mature peafowl male. It is like losing a family member the sadness I feel is indescribable.
Beautiful Buck the Peacock, RIP little friend, we'll miss you
THE WEST MELBOURNE FIRE

We headed on to the fire which was 1.5 miles from P2. It was more than a little alarming seeing flames jumping around and lighting up massive pine trees that are so dry from the last five months of extreme drought.

Here are some pictures from the West Melbourne fire on May 14, 2017
